How to find viral tweets on X while they are still rising

Finding a tweet that already went viral is easy. Finding one that is going viral right now, while replies still get noticed, takes a different signal: speed, not size.

Why the usual methods show you the past

Most advice for finding viral tweets relies on X search operators such as min_faves:1000 or min_retweets:500. They work, but they filter on totals. By the time a tweet has 1,000 likes, it has usually been out for hours, the top replies are settled, and joining the conversation gets you little.

Explore and Trending have a similar problem from the other side. They show topics and keywords, not the specific posts inside your niche that are picking up speed.

What you actually want is a list of posts sorted by how fast they are gaining views, limited to the accounts and topics you care about. That is what the X Viral Monitor leaderboard does.

The signal: views per hour plus age

X Viral Monitor divides each tweet's views by the hours since it was posted and shows the result as a badge: 🌱 under 1,000 views per hour, πŸš€ from 1,000, πŸ”₯ from 10,000. Those thresholds are adjustable. The details are in Twitter views per hour explained.

A young post with a πŸš€ badge is the sweet spot. It has proven it can travel, and it has not peaked yet.

Turn on the leaderboard

The leaderboard is a floating panel titled Hot on this page. It is off by default. Switch it on in the extension popup under the Leaderboard tab.

The leaderboard ranks what X has loaded on your screen. It is not a global chart of all of X. That is a feature: pointed at the right page, it becomes a ranked view of your niche.

Where to point it

A five-minute routine

  1. Open your niche list or a Latest search.
  2. Scroll three or four screens so X loads a decent batch of tweets.
  3. Check the leaderboard. Ignore πŸ”₯ posts that are a day old; focus on πŸš€ and πŸ”₯ posts from the last few hours.
  4. Click the top two or three, read them fully, and decide whether you have something useful to add.
  5. Reply, quote, or bookmark them for later.

Hide everything that is not moving (Pro)

If you want the timeline itself to show only posts that are spreading, the Pro velocity filter can hide the rest. The rule is simple: a post stays if its views per minute or its total views pass your thresholds, and short tweets and long X Articles have separate thresholds. You choose where it applies: Home, Lists, Profiles and post pages. You can also flip it on from the leaderboard with the Hot only switch.

Pro costs $2.9 per month or $29 per year and comes with a 14-day trial. The badges and the leaderboard stay free.

Once you have found one

Speed only matters if you do something with it. Write a reply that adds a fact, an example or a counterpoint. If you want a starting draft, the AI reply generator sits right in the reply box. If you want to keep the post, copy it as Markdown into your notes with the author and link attached.

FAQ

Does the leaderboard show viral tweets from all of X?

No. It ranks tweets that are loaded on the page you are looking at. Point it at a list, a search or a profile to rank that slice of X.

Is the leaderboard free?

Yes. Badges and the leaderboard are free. Only the velocity filter that hides slow posts is part of Pro.
